A Spring Cottage Home Tour: Embracing Blue and White Decor

As spring approaches, there’s no better way to refresh your home than with light, airy decor that evokes the season’s freshness. This spring, I’ve embraced a charming blue and white color scheme that perfectly suits the cozy cottage vibe I love. Let me take you through my home and share how I’ve decorated each space with simple yet inspiring ideas that capture the essence of spring.

A Simplified Front Porch

I started by giving my front porch a fresh look. This year, I took a bold step and decided to forgo the traditional wreath, embracing a more minimalist style. Our wide porch features a pair of Adirondack gliders, where we enjoy the sights and sounds of the season, from birds fluttering around the birdhouse to the peaceful ambiance.

The gliders, which were originally stained, were painted white to match the cottage theme I’m aiming for. I added a couple of blue and white outdoor rugs along with some decorative pillows to make the area feel inviting and cozy for conversation. It’s a peaceful spot to relax and enjoy the spring weather.

A Cozy Entryway

Next, I moved into the foyer, where I decided to pare down the decor for a cleaner, simpler look. A new blue and white rug sets the tone for the space, while the only decoration I added to the entry chest was a beautiful planter filled with a faux fern. It’s a subtle touch that still brings the spring spirit to the room.

I also replaced one of the DIY benches in the foyer with a basket full of colorful umbrellas collected by my mom over the years. Every time I walk into the house, I’m greeted with this sentimental display, which adds a special personal touch to the space.

Blue and White Living Room

As I moved into the living room, I continued the blue and white theme. I added some accessories to the entertainment center and coffee table, along with a few new pillows to update the look. Mixing patterns is one of my favorite decorating tricks, and I’m particularly fond of the Jacobean floral print pillows paired with the beige and white patterned pillow, and the blue and white plaid.

To add height and drama to the space, I placed some leafy stems in a woven blue outdoor planter on the mantel. The height of the arrangement works perfectly in a room with two-story ceilings, adding an extra layer of interest and style.

The Breakfast Room Refresh

Next, I turned my attention to the breakfast room, where I’ve been making gradual updates. While there are still a few items left on my to-do list, including reupholstering my chairs, I’m happy with the progress so far. I’ve incorporated more blue and white accessories, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere perfect for the season.

Dining Room Simplicity

Moving into the dining room, I kept things simple, following the same blue and white theme. I added a new rug to complement the space, although I did face a bit of a challenge trying to coordinate multiple rugs between rooms. If you’re interested in how to successfully layer rugs, I’ve written a post about it that you might find helpful.

The dining room features a bit of unexpected color—a hint of dark pink in the artwork above my gray chest. Although pink isn’t typically a color I use in my decor, it felt right to add a small pop of it for spring. To tie it together, I included some pink hydrangeas in a sideboard arrangement, bringing life and a touch of springtime freshness into the room.

The Home Office

Lastly, I made a few updates to the home office, continuing with the blue and white accents. I added some more decorative pillows, which tie in perfectly with the rest of the house. The abstract artwork on the wall remains one of my favorite pieces, offering a striking contrast to the softer, more serene elements in the space.

Final Thoughts

This spring, I’ve embraced a serene and cheerful blue and white theme throughout my home, creating spaces that feel light, fresh, and cozy. By incorporating personal touches, mixing patterns, and simplifying my decor, I’ve created a home that feels welcoming and perfect for the season. I hope these ideas inspire you to bring a bit of spring into your own space!
