In this post, I’m excited to share the progress of updating my outdated master bathroom into a fresh, modern, and functional space. After a major renovation nearly six years ago, it was finally time to complete the finishing touches that would make it feel like a room we could fully enjoy each day. Here’s a peek at the updates I made, including new lighting, mirrors, and stylish accessories that transformed the space.
The Vanity Area Transformation
When we first toured the house, the vanity area was far from inspiring. It had all the hallmarks of a bathroom stuck in the ’90s—unappealing fixtures and outdated details. Over the years, I made small updates to keep it functional, but the space never felt fully “done.” Initially, we considered replacing the vanities, but after much thought, we decided to keep them. Since they matched the traditional style we were aiming for, we focused on raising them to a more comfortable height, adding new countertops and faucets. Eventually, though, we’ve decided to replace the vanities entirely, so I’ll be on the hunt for new ones that complement the updated aesthetic.
Lighting Upgrades for a Modern Feel
The bathroom lighting was another area in need of change. Initially, I considered updating the existing fixtures by spray painting them and swapping out the glass globes, but upon closer inspection, the light sockets were too loose, and there were noticeable imperfections in the finish. So, I opted for new lighting fixtures that were not only functional but also stylish. I chose sconces with open-bottomed shades, ensuring that they wouldn’t collect dust or hair. While they weren’t the cheapest option, they provided the modern touch I wanted without breaking the bank.
New Mirrors for a Fresh Look
One of the most impactful changes was replacing the large, outdated mirrors that once hung above the sinks. I decided on round mirrors to break up the square lines in the room and provide a more contemporary look. These mirrors, with their simple frames, are a huge upgrade from the old, heavily framed mirrors and add an elegant, yet minimalist touch to the space.
Decorative Walls with Botanical Prints
The walls in the bathroom presented a bit of a challenge. Since there wasn’t much space to hang towel bars without disrupting the flow of the room, I needed to get creative. I chose a set of three coordinating framed botanical prints to decorate the walls, ensuring the design felt balanced despite the uneven wall space. These prints add a soft touch of nature and color to the room, giving it a refined, fresh vibe.
Practical and Stylish Flooring
The bathroom floors also underwent a subtle transformation. I had originally planned to go with a more turquoise blue palette, but during my master bedroom makeover, I was drawn to chambray blue tones. I wanted the bathroom rugs to match this new look but still be practical. Instead of opting for traditional area rugs that would require professional cleaning, I found bath mats with a rubber backing that I could easily wash at home. They were just the right color and design to complement the room’s updated look while being functional enough for everyday use.
A Dramatic Difference
It’s incredible how these small updates have completely transformed the half-finished bathroom into a space that feels modern and welcoming. The combination of new lighting, mirrors, and accessories, along with the thoughtful design choices, has made this bathroom feel fresh, comfortable, and more in line with my style. These changes might seem small, but they’ve had a dramatic impact, making this once-dated space feel like a brand-new room.
